James Patrick Murphy, Jr., age 60, passed away at his home in Voluntown, CT on October 2, 2019.
Jim was the oldest son of James and Patricia (Dally) Murphy.  He was born on July 3, 1959 in St. Joseph, Michigan.  He was big brother to Connie, Dennis and Shawn.  The family moved to Walled Lake, MI when Jim was 11 yrs old.  Summers were spent on the lake, celebrating the Fourth of July and his birthdays with big family parties.  Jim graduated from Walled Lake Western High School in 1977 and earned his Associates Degree after attending Central Michigan University and Oakland Community College.
Jim honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1984-1997 as an STS1 (SS) Submarine Sonar Technician aboard the U.S.S. Silversides and the U.S.S. Toledo.  He was named “Sailor of the Year” in 1991 and earned several medals of commendation.
After the Navy, Jim remained on the East Coast.  Although he didn’t have a formal engineering degree, Jim excelled as a Project Manager and Manufacturing Process Engineer for the next 20 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim, Sr. and Pat, and brother Patrick Shawn Murphy.
He is survived by sister Connie (David) Darin, brother Dennis (Lisa) Murphy, uncle Curtis  (Christine) Dally, niece Ashley (Jessica) Murphy, nephews Scott Darin, Grant Darin, Brett Darin, great nephew Griffin James Murphy and many Murphy, Zimmerman and Dally cousins.
Jim loved being out in nature: hiking, kayaking, fishing and biking.  He loved his cats and spending time with his many friends.

My sympathy to Jim's entire family. It was my pleasure to be called his friend and to work with him for the past 20 years. Jim could always be counted on to help his friends when they needed him. A true treasure that will always be missed. Love you Jim and I will never forget you.

My sincere condolences to Jim's family on his passing. I have worked with Jim over the past 20 years and considered him a good friend as well as co-worker. Jim was always so helpful and if you needed something he was right there to help in any way he could. He will be missed by myself and his many friends. He never let any grass grow under his feet, he was always very active and very busy. He took on many challenges and got them done. I will remember him in my thoughts and prayers always and may he rest in peace.
