William Rondeau Obituary

William Joseph Rondeau, 57, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at his home in Voluntown, CT . Billy, as most people called him, was born on September 20, 1964 in Norwich CT to Raymond Rondeau Sr. and Patricia (Blanchette) Rondeau of Griswold, CT. He graduated from Griswold High School and worked as a pipefitter at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division for 36 years, first at the Groton facility and then at the Quonset Point facility up until the time of his death. Billy had many close friends at Electric Boat and was known for his vast knowledge of pipefitting and making his own specialty tools to get a job done when the standard tools didn’t work. He was also known by his many crew mates as a jokester who liked to make his friends laugh. Billy was also known as a really good cook who could whip up a delicious meal with anything he found in the fridge. He never used recipes and loved to cook for everyone. He was an avid fisherman, played in local volleyball leagues for many years, and was an avid sports fan. He passionately followed the Minnesota Vikings, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and Ohio State Football, the alma mater of his best friend/cousin, Tommy Thornhill, who pre-deceased him. While Billy was a devoted fan to his favorite teams, he especially loved watching his son, Alan, play football, basketball and baseball. Billy was so very  proud of his athletic son and truly enjoyed every single minute of watching him play on travel and school teams over the years.

Billy leaves behind his beloved son, Alan Rondeau, his mother and father, Raymond and Patricia (Blanchette) Rondeau, his brother Ray “Rick” Rondeau Jr. and his wife Nellie, his sister, Cathy Harrington and her husband Don, his brother Larry Rondeau and his wife Joelle, and his former wife of 23 years, Shawn Rondeau. He also leaves behind four nephews, two nieces, one great nephew and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Billy left this earth too early and will be missed by both his family and many friends.

No services are immediately scheduled due to Covid concerns, but an outdoor Celebration of Life gathering will be planned later this summer and will be announced at that time.
