William (Bill) J. Ambot passed away peacefully in his home on July 4th, 2025 after a bravely
fought battle with Parkinson's Dementia, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born April 3rd , 1943 to William and Mary (Rosol) Ambot, he grew up in Jewett City on his
family's farm on Oak St with his brother Buzzy and sister Roberta. Attending St. Mary’s
School in Jewett City and then Griswold High School.
In 1962, William joined the U.S Navy Seabees, Mobile Construction Battalion (MBC 8). He was
a proud Seabee and was part of the effort to construct McMurdo Station in Antarctica. He
also completed a tour in Vietnam and always added that he was given a 4 month involuntary
extension after one year. He was honorably discharged in 1966, he was a proud Vietnam
Veteran, wearing his hat with pride and always appreciated the “thank you for your service”
he received.
William worked for various construction companies as a heavy equipment operator in the
Griswold Area, and then chose a career at Electric Boat as a crane operator, retiring in 2002
after 38 years.
On July 4th, 1968, he met the love of his life, Laurie Johnson at the Andrea in Misquamicut RI.
They were married in 1970, and found the perfect little house in Lisbon to raise their only
child, Jennifer. That house is where they would spend the next 55 years together building a
lifetime of memories, rarely spending time apart.
Through the years Williams hobbies and passions varied from fishing, clamming, crabbing,
hunting, gardening, riding his Harley, downhill + cross country skiing, boating, going to Sandy
point + Misquamicut, watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and Uconn Women's Basketball.
Restoring a 1972 Chevelle his daughter's first car, and then a 1970 Chevelle for himself and his
wife. Showing at local car shows, winning many trophies. Every season he looked forward to
taking vacations with his family to Cape Cod, Rangeley Maine, Outer Banks, New Hampshire,
and one of his favorite places Bike Week in Laconia NH.
One of his happiest moments was finding out he was going to have a grandson, Hunter. He
cherished the fishing trips to Rangeley Lake in the summer, and Blackfishing in the fall off
Stonington Point with Hunter. working in the yard, watching history shows, watching him play
baseball, and seeing him ride his dirtbike.
He is predeceased by his parents William and Mary Ambot, sister in law and brother in law
Mary Elizabeth and Paul Danner, and lifelong friends, Carol and Doug Goede.
William is already deeply missed by his wife, Laureen (laurie) Ambot, Daughter, Jennifer
Ambot Babcock, son in law, Earl Babcock,and his only grandchild, Hunter Babcock, sister,
Roberta Brown, brother in law, Tom Brown, Brother, Robert (Buzzy) Ambot, sister in law,
Cynthia Ambot, several nieces and nephews, and his Dachshund, Milo.
A mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Jewett City, July 19th at 11:00. In Lieu of flowers,
the family requests donations to be made to the Jewett City VFW Post 1008 in Bill’s Memory.
