Walter Wisniewski, Sr. Obituary

Walter S. Wisniewski, 92, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on November 28, 2021. He was born on the family farm in Preston Ct., the youngest son and last surviving child of Walter and Dominica (Rutkowski) Wisniewski.

He is a Korean War army veteran.  While on leave, his nephew, Tom Piechowski introduced him to Laura Wieczorek since he was looking for a nice Polish girl.  They were married April 24, 1954, at St Joseph’s Church.   They built a home on the family farm where Walter was able to live until his death.

Prior to his retirement, he worked at the Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT as a machinist/ model maker.  He proudly made and repaired sonar equipment for submarines, travelling to assist in testing, installation and repair of sonar at naval bases around the world.

Walter loved woodworking, dancing, gardening, vacations with his wife and children and caring for his home.  He was a doer, a builder, a fixer, always on the go, always a project.  He was frustrated in his later years with his lack of energy and inability to “do”.  When not working he enjoyed family gatherings, Polka weekends, camping and cruises.  Some of his favorite trips were Hawaii, London and Poland.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Laura, his four children, daughter Deborah Maxwell and her husband David of Northfield, Vermont, son Walter of Griswold, CT., son John of Brooklyn, CT., daughter Ellen Allen and her fiancée Vinnie of Bozrah, CT., five grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Walter is predeceased by his brothers: Joe, Tony, Frank, Peter, Paul and Ed and his sisters: Helen, Julia, Mary and Martha

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Catherine of Sienna Church, Preston Ct., Friday, December 3, 2021 at 10:00 AM.  Burial to immediately follow in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Norwich, CT.  The Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT has been entrusted with the arrangements.  For online condolences please go to www.gagnefuneralhome.com
