Walter Jamrock, age 72, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2022, with his wife and son by his side. He was the son of Walter and Edith (Schultz) Jamrock who predeceased him. He leaves his wife of 35 years, Jacquelyn (Bonkowski) Jamrock and his four sons, Nicholas, Peter,
Jason, and Michael. Walter is survived by seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and
our dog Maggie.
Walter enjoyed the noise and activity of large family gatherings and will be missed by his
brother, John Jamrock (Kathy) and his sisters, Ann Withkowski (John), Joan Truesdell (Jim) and
numerous nieces and nephews.
As an active outdoorsman in his youth, avid angler and retired 20-year Veteran of the United States Navy, he reveled in the “Old Salt” persona, happily spinning yarns and sharing his wealth of experience with anyone who would listen. Stories of his time in Scotland were some of his favorites, including countless camping trips with friends and hunting expeditions that bore more laughs than dinners. Following his service, he continued his trade at General Dynamics Electric Boat and Ozone Industries/Triumph Group until every day became a Saturday.
In his retirement, Wally enjoyed the simple life, gaming online with friends and taking care of his granddaughter, Milo Jamrock, often baking cookies with her and looking forward to her overnights with Grandma and Grandpa on Fridays. He watched many episodes of Cocomelon and play-throughs of Encanto, Pocohontas, Frozen, and many sing-a-longs with her; cackling with glee when he inflicted the gummy bear song on the rest of us. She misses her “Papa with a beard” very much.
Walter helped with the care and supervision of his mother-in-law for 20 years, making her
meals and keeping her safe until her passing in 2021.
He was a good husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, and adviser to many. He
will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a calling hour from 10:00-11:00AM on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11:00AM at the funeral home with military honors.
