Walter Jay Hebert

Walter Jay Hebert, 93, of Rill Brook Road, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at his home. 

He was born December 23, 1929, in Norwich, CT,  son to the late Walter Jeffrey and Vera (McBroome) Hebert.  On November 22, 1951 he was married to Jane Veronica (Nofle) Hebert.  She survives him.

Known to most as Jay, he worked as a nuclear welder and pipefitter for The Electric Boat Company and as a contractor through the Ct. Plumbers and Pipefitters Union until his retirement.  Jay was an avid hunter and fisherman and was always happy to be in woods or the shores of streams, rivers, lakes and oceans enjoying this passion. Jay will also be remembered for his engaging storytelling, singing, and excellent memory.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children Lynn Morgan (Jack Murray), Jay W. Hebert (Bonnie), and Helen E. Bice (Rex Riddle), his sister Betsy Fox, his grandchildren Jill Santiago, Helen Morgan Parmett (Justin) and Adam Bice, and his great grandchildren Anthony Santiago, Claudia Santiago and Nakobe Morgan Parmett.  

He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Hebert Reed and granddaughter Stephanie Dudek.  

A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00AM Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold, CT.
