Thomas James Sullivan

Thomas J. Sullivan, 85 formerly of Groton died on June 27, 2024 in Danielson after a brief illness.

Born in New London, on December 2, 1938 he was the beloved son of the late Robert and Eleanor (Bartolucci) Sullivan of Waterford. Tom married the love of his life Barbara Koschmieder on August 16, 1958. After graduating New London High School, Tom went to work at Electric Boat, where he worked until he retired.

 Tom and his wife Barbara raised their three children in the home they built in Groton.  When his children were young he enjoyed taking them on bus trips to baseball games in New York with the Electric Boat Athletic Club. Tom also enjoyed camping for many years with his family, parents and in-laws where he loved taking his kids water skiing. Tom always loved to tell stories of growing up in New London and working as a lifeguard at Ocean Beach Park. He enjoyed taking rides with family through the “old neighborhood” in New London to reminisce about stories of growing up. 

When he retired Tom loved golfing and traveling with his wife Barbara, and they enjoyed spending their winters in Pompano Beach, Florida. He and Barbara moved to Griswold in 2007 where they lived next door to their youngest daughter and her family where they enjoyed family picnics, taking boat rides, riding his jet ski, sitting by fires, and waving to boats passing by while they relaxed on their deck.

Tom is survived by his son David and wife Renee from Alabama, and his granddaughter Taylor from Arkansas. He is survived by his daughter Laurie and her fiance Earl of Florida, and by his youngest daughter Sherri and her husband John, and his grandson Conor, all of Griswold. Tom is also survived by his beloved brother Richard and his wife Beverly of Waterford, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.

There will be a calling hour from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 pm at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home at 490 Voluntown Road, Griswold.
