Sandra Jane (Serfass) Weiss

Sandra “Sandee” (Serfass) Weiss, 78, a long time resident of Griswold, passed away on December 16, 2022 at Backus Hospital, Norwich after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in East Stroudsburg, PA on December 18, 1943 a daughter of the late Raymond “Jack” and Doris (Halstead) Serfass, Sr. On December 28, 1963 she married her husband Robert W. Weiss who survives her. A homemaker until her daughter went off to college, she began a second career as a teacher’s aide at The Mahan School in Norwich, where she enjoyed her students and co-workers. She then joined her husband at Accutech Inspection Services until her retirement.

She relished time spent tending to her many gardens and birds, hunting for fossils, and making jewelry. She never passed on an opportunity for a fun night at Mohegan Sun and could always be counted on for one of her famous hugs. Never afraid to hop in the car, she frequently drove out to central NY to visit her sister, western MA for weekends with their daughter, or The Poconos to see family. In recent years her travels included Oregon, Hawaii, California, England, and Europe.

In addition to her husband, Sandee is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Weiss of Hinsdale, MA; her sister and brother-in-law Colleen and Dr. Robert Upholt of Marathon, NY; and brother and sister-in-law Raymond “Pee-Wee” and Donna Serfass of Lake Worth, FL. “Aunt Sam” will be greatly missed by Tammy and Eddie Butcher of Scranton, PA; Shawn Upholt and Heather Munn of Portland, OR; Penny and Michael Ayers of Cresco, PA; Shelly and Kevin Ayers of Cresco, PA; as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family, with Celebrations of Life to be held in both CT and PA at a later date.
