In Loving Memory of Ruth M. Labrecque
July 28, 1933 – May 7, 2026
Ruth M. Labrecque, a lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Ruth leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, compassion, and dedication that will live on for generations to come.
Born on July 28, 1933, Ruth was the beloved daughter of Levi and Irene Talbot. She was predeceased by her sister, Phoebe Elizabeth Talbot. Ruth shared a loving marriage with her husband, Vito Labrecque, building a life centered around family, hard work, and devotion.
She was the proud and loving mother of two sons, William Labrecque and his wife Karen Labrecque, and Vito Labrecque Jr. and his wife Laura Labrecque. Her greatest joy came from the family she nurtured and the many memories they created together.
She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Kristina Wendell and her husband Brian Wendell of Trumbull; Nicholas Labrecque and his wife Samantha Labrecque of Medford; Ashley Lynch and her husband Sean Lynch of Griswold; Richard Roberts and his fiancée Megan Podeszwa of Groton; and Kellie Semmelrock and her husband Zachary Semmelrock of Bozrah.
Ruth was also blessed with eight beloved great-grandchildren who brought endless pride and happiness to her life: Duke Wendell, Bennett Semmelrock, Ella Lynch, Grant Labrecque, Cooper Semmelrock, Beau Wendell, Nora Labrecque, and Holden Semmelrock.
A graduate of Norwich Free Academy Class of 1952, Ruth dedicated many years to her professional life. She worked at F. W. Woolworth Company as a manager and in the Human Resources department, and later served as a manager at Troy Laundry, where she was respected for her leadership kindness.
Ruth was deeply involved in her community and took tremendous pride in her lifelong membership with the Women of the Moose, Bozrah Chapter 124. A member since October 12, 1961, she faithfully served as Star Recorder and was honored to be part of the College of Regents. Through her years of service, she formed lifelong friendships and touched lives with her caring spirit.
Ruth will always be remembered for the love she gave, the wisdom she shared, and the comfort she brought to those around her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with her, and her legacy of love and devotion will continue to guide and inspire those who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, caregivers, and staff at Colonial Health & Rehab Center of Plainfield, LLC for the compassionate and generous care they provided to Ruth during her final days.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”
