Roy Baker Obituary

Roy F. Baker passed away on May 5, 2026.  The youngest of four boys born, to Robert Grant Baker and Marguerite (Schaefer) Baker.

He was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 1, 1948 at his maternal grandparents home with the assistance of a midwife.  At birth, he had a hole in his heart which did not heal until he turned two, but he persevered.  He was raised in Plainfield, CT at the family home and he attended schools there.  He played football, basketball, plus he was the male lead role model in his junior class murder mystery play.  He later studied at Three Rivers Community College.  His brothers Robert Moses Baker, William Grant Baker and Harry John Baker all predeceased him.

Out of school he met the love of his life Marie Ann (Laroux) Baker.  They married February 28, 1970.  They shared a wonderful life and were blessed with two daughters, Anmarie (the serious one) Baker (Jenkins) and Andrea (the business mind) Baker (Bailey) then (Garnier) and the great son-in-law, Derick Garnier.

The daughters added five wonderful grandchildren, Tia Jenkins, Charles Jenkins, Nina Bailey, Nicholas Bailey and Lynette Bailey.

Roy worked in the home building construction field after high school until 1974 when he went to General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton.  Seven years later, after working in the reactor rooms of 35 submarines, he signed onto the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford, CT.  Between Millstone and Connecticut Yankee he worked over 37 1/2 years as a nuclear power plant inspector.

Roy was a proud Mohegan Indian who spent a number of years in the late 1970’s into the 1980’s trying to help the tribe acquire federal recognition.  Roy will be buried at the tribal cemetery Fort Shantock, Ucasville, CT.
