Griswold- Robert (“Bob”) J. Stevens, Sr. of 80 Sheldon Road passed away on August 20, 2022 at the age of 92.
He was born November 20, 1929 in Albany, CA, to Charles and Harriet (Hutchinson) Stevens. From the age of four, he was raised by his grandparents William and Anna Hutchinson-after his mother died from TB. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen E. Stevens, whom he married on July 10, 1950 and helped co-parent five of her children before having five more children of their own. He was also predeceased by his brother Charles Stevens, Jr.
Bob is survived by his children Roberta Hess of N. Dighton, MA, Darrell Stevens and his wife Joanne of Griswold, CT, Robert (“Jim”) Stevens, Jr. and his wife Gladis of Dallas, TX, Frederick Stevens and his wife Xianglan Li of Fort Worth, TX, Douglas Stevens and his wife Karen of Westerly, RI, Darlene Arguin and her husband Rick of Dighton, MA, and Craig Stevens of Taunton, MA. He was blessed with a niece and two nephews, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
After he graduated from high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a First Class Torpedoman and served for 20 years. Following his retirement, he continued as a Civil Servant in the same capacity for an additional 20 years. He quoted, “Loved the service. Never having to worry about a strike.”
Bob will be remembered as a strong-willed man who was hard working, independent, and enjoyed upkeeping his home and yard.

Calling hours will be at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home in Griswold, CT on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 PM. A funeral with military honors will be on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
