Robert L. St. Andrews of Lisbon, CT passed away Friday the 13th of June after a long illness at home with his family at his side. He was born in Ticonderoga, NY the 15th of November 1941 to Charles and Jennie (Newman) St. Andrews. He proudly served in the U.S Marine Corps from 1960-1964. Robert is predeceased by his parents and 6 brothers and 7 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Kathryn (Coates), his daughter May (Josef) Ulrich, 3 grandchildren, Abigail, Robert and Charles, his sisters Charlene St. Andrews and Raydene St. Andrews and one brother Pete St. Andrews, as well as several nieces and nephews.
After his service he relocated to Saratoga County, NY. He worked a variety of jobs, mainly construction related. He became interested in horses, especially Standardbred racehorses. He met his wife while working on a veterinarian’s farm. After they got married, they traveled to Florida, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania to work with the horses. They returned to Saratoga County, NY where their daughter was born, and they had a small horse breeding farm.
Robert was a strong family man and tried to keep in touch with his brothers and sisters that spread out not only throughout NYS but other states as well. He moved to the “foreign country” of Connecticut to be more involved in his daughter and grandchildren’s lives. He enjoyed his fishpond, his horses, going out to eat at his favorite restaurant (Town Grill & Pizzeria, Voluntown), and watching his grandchildren’s various sports and academic activities. His family is setting up a memorial scholarship fund, more details to follow.
