Rita R. St. John 98 of Jewett City peacefully passed away on July 21, 2024 at Colonial Health and Rehab in Plainfield, CT.
She was born May 29, 1926 in Jewett City, CT to the late Medos and Rose (Fontaine) Lamothe. On June 10,1944 she was united in marriage to Henry C. St. John. He predeceased her on August 7, 2013.
Rita worked as a seamstress for Scrolls products for many years. She also was a master cake decorator and made Wedding, Anniversary, and Birthday cakes for family, friends and clientele. She was also an avid knitter and quilter who she gifted many of her quilts, garments, and blankets to family and friends. Upon retiring Rita worked in the kitchen at the Griswold Senior Center in Jewett City for many years where she made life long friends.
Rita leaves behind 1 brother Albert LaMothe of Montville; a son Henry St. John Jr of Jewett City, 2 daughters Joyce (Bill) Sharkey of Largo Fl; Gail (George) Nowosielski of Uncasville; 6 grand children, David (Anita) St. John of Georgia; Michele Densmore (Tim Hunter) of Groton; Brandon and Ryan Sharkey of FL; Chris Nowosielski of Taftville; Michael Nowosielski (Jane Symmes) of Scotland; 2 great-grand daughters, Darien and Hailey Sharkey; 3 great-great-grand daughters; Lily Rose and Sage Scolero and Aria Trudeau. She also leaves behind a very special niece and God daughter Peg (Bruce) McComiskey of Norwich along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her great grandson Seth Scolaro of Georgia; 1 brother, Ernest Lamothe (Mary) of Preston; and 1 sister Laura (Walter) Vincent of Plainfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held @ 10:00 a.m. on Thursday August 1, 2024 at St. Mary’s Church Jewett City, CT. Internment will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lisbon, CT.
