Richard F. Zavistoski, son of the late Helen (Baldyga) and Anthony Zavistoski, passed away on August 30, 2025, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut.
Born in Griswold in 1946, Richard was a proud graduate of Griswold High School’s Class of 1964. Shortly after graduating, he answered the call to serve his country with honor, joining the United States Army and serving during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Richard worked in Shipping and Receiving at Wire Wynd in Jewett City.
Richard is survived by his only sister, Elizabeth Kernozek of Phoenixville Pennsylvania, and his devoted caregiver, Linda Zavistoski. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
A man of quiet strength and gentle wisdom, Richard valued privacy and simplicity. Though he shunned the spotlight, those fortunate enough to know him were touched by his dry wit, steadfast friendship, and deep sense of integrity. He cherished spending time with a close circle of lifelong friends whose bonds remained strong through the decades.
In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Richard’s memory to a veterans' organization of your choice.
