Richard Francis Throwe, 82, of Jewett City, beloved husband for 61 years to Carol A. (Thibeault) Throwe died peacefully on August 15, 2023 at Backus Hospital.
Richard was born in Norwich, on September 21, 1940, son of the late Andrew A. Throwe Sr. and Muriel (Yeager) Throwe. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1958. After graduation, he joined the US Navy. After serving in the Navy, he worked for SNET for 34 years, where he was a Central Office Supervisor for many years. Richard was very active in his life serving as a Cub Scout Leader, Soccer Coach, Little League Coach as well as many other organizations.
In 1996, Richard started the Pioneer Prankster Clowns who performed at parades and charity events. He was a member of the K of C 2634 in Jewett City. Richard was a JCDPU commissioner, member of CMEEC, member of the telephone pioneers and a former member of Core Plus Credit Union BOD. Richard helped establish the St. Mary’s Food Pantry where he volunteered for many years. He was a member of LSVT Big PD program at UCONN for 10 years. He was an original member of Championship Rounds Boxing (Parkinson’s) Program in New London. Richard was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2010 and did everything he could to stay active.
Besides his wife, he leaves behind his children, Leanne (Hubert) Appleton, Lisa (Steven) Sawyer and Christopher (Jennifer) Throwe. He leaves behind 5 granddaughters; Kaitlyn (David) Vacchina, Heather (Taylor) Theriault, Stephanie (Elizabeth) Goldberg, Lindsey and Samantha Throwe. He also was blessed with 4 great-grandchildren; Adalyn and Molly Vacchina, William Goldberg and Luca Theriault.
He is survived by his sister Margaret (Thomas) Wilson and brother Eugene (Jane) Throwe and sister in law Anita Throwe. Also survived by sister in law Elaine Ruffo and brother in law Joseph (LeAnn) Thibeault. Richard is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Gerald Throwe, James Throwe and Andrew A Throwe Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at St. Mary's Church, Jewett City, CT. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold, CT.
