Richard Campbell, Sr. Obituary

Richard L. Campbell Sr., 92, of Moosup, CT, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2022. He died peacefully of natural causes with his loving wife by his side. Richard was born December 16, 1929 in Norfolk, VA, to his parents Boris Campbell and Augusta Savoff.  A few years after, the family moved to Maryland.

 

Richard attended Harve de Grace High School in Harve de Grace, Maryland.  He served in the United States Navy from 1948-1951 with an honorable discharge in 1951.  The Navy brought him to Connecticut, in which he decided to stay.  After serving in the military, he married Dorothy Benjamin on May 10, 1952 in Old Lyme. Richard excelled in many different places of employment throughout his life including Corin Brothers in New London, New London Mills, Federal Paper Board in Versailles, and as a security guard in multiple agencies in Connecticut.  Over the years, Richard and Dorothy lived in New London and Groton, and in Griswold for 50 years with their eight children before settling in Moosup later in life.  

 

Richard was a follower of Christ and lived with the passion to share his faith. He was skilled in wood crafting and music.  Richard also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time outdoors.

 

Richard is predeceased by his parents Boris and Augusta, his brother Larry, and his son Daniel. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Campbell (Benjamin), his three sisters, Mary Jane of Colorado, and Betty and Patsy of Maryland, and by his children Richard Campbell Jr. and wife Geraldine of Moosup, Nina Marco and husband Gordon of North Port, FL, Stanley Campbell and wife Linda of Willington, Peggy Scougall and husband Michael of Glastonbury, Laurie Langlois and husband Lucien of Johnson City, TN, William Campbell and wife Jo Leigh of Riverview, FL, and Susan MacGregor and husband George of Lebanon. Richard is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and numerous other family members.

 

The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Rd., Griswold, CT.  Graveside service will follow at Pachaug Cemetery on Voluntown Rd. in Griswold.
