Groton - Phyllis A. (Thivierge) Modert, 88 of N. Stonington passed away on June 21st, 2022 at Fairview nursing facility. Born April 12th, 1934 in Newton, MA, Phyllis was the eldest daughter of the late H. Edward and Viola M. (Hughes) Thivierge, and Granddaughter to former Newton Police Chief, Charles Hughes.
Phyllis spent her childhood growing up in Belmont, MA. After Graduating Belmont High School in 1952, she attended Bentley School of Finance in Boston, with some continued education at a local College in Norwich, CT. at a later date. Known as a music lover and animal lover, many kitties found love and shelter with her throughout the years. Always an avid reader, she took up Bible Study and was baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witness on June 22nd, 1990. With declining health throughout the pandemic, she was able to continue to participate in services via remotely through the Stonington Congregation. She was predeceased by both sons Bradley E. Modert and Eugene “Paul” Modert.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Brenda M. (Thivierge) Orrell of Melrose, MA., numerous nieces and nephew, multiple great-nieces and great nephews and close friends Richard & Renee Chabotte.
Visiting hours to be held at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 from 12-1 with brief services to be held at funeral home after and interment at Maplewood Cemetary to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the animal shelter of your choice or through JW.org.
