Patricia Regina (Wells) Steinhagen

Patricia Regina (Wells) Steinhagen, 92, died peacefully at Colonial Health and Rehab in Plainfield, CT on May 31, 2024. Born on May 15, 1932, in Saint Marys, PA, she was the daughter of Fred H. and Regina (Weis) Wells, who preceded her in death. She graduated from the former Central Catholic High School in Saint Marys in 1950 and received her diploma in nursing in 1954 from Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing of what is now Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She had a long career as a nurse in Baltimore and later at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys. After her retirement, she served as a volunteer school nurse at Sacred Heart School in Saint Marys.

In 1955 Patricia married Lieutenant Paul W. Steinhagen, USN, who proceeded her in death. She had three children, who survive her: Peter Steinhagen and his wife Lorelei of Mountlake Terrace, WA; Erich Steinhagen and his wife Janice of Griswold, CT; and Christa Laudenslager and her husband Tom of Sellersville, PA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dr. Margaret Steinhagen of Timonium, MD, and by five grandchildren: Elizabeth Laudenslager of Philadelphia, PA; Evan Laudenslager of Queens, NY; Clara Steinhagen of Ottawa, Canada; Paul Steinhagen of Underhill, VT; and Patricia Steinhagen of Somerville, MA. Other survivors include her step-grandchildren: Stacy Smith and her daughters Sabrina and Aubrey; Scott McMahon and his daughter Kaelyn; and Sarah Spang and her son Jackson, all of Washington state. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, among them Nancy Pistner of Saint Marys, PA.

Patricia was a near-lifelong resident of Saint Marys and a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church there. She moved in 2021 to live with her family in Griswold, CT, where she was a member of Saint Mary Parish of Jewett City and the Griswold Senior Center. She was an avid reader and a member of the Golden Grads of Central Catholic High School, the Nurses’ Study Club, and the Red Hat Society, all of Saint Marys, PA.

Calling hours will be held at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Griswold, CT on Tuesday, June 11 from 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment in Saint Marys, PA will follow at a later date.
