Nancy D. Mathews passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023 with her beloved husband of 45 years, Allen, by her side continually providing support, comfort and devotion. Nancy was born in Bridgeport, CT on February 24, 1939, the daughter of the late Daniel and Edith Donegan. Nancy was predeceased by her son Joseph W. Bubenicek, III, and her sister, Kay Nielsen.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband and everlasting companion, Allen Mathews; daughter Barbara Sinko and husband Michael; as well as her much loved stepchildren Sue Hull and her husband Ben; Shelley Mathews and husband Luc Bergeron (deceased); Allison Riley, and her husband Michael; Allen (Buddy) Mathews Jr, and Angela Adams. Nancy was also blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Nancy married the love of her life, Allen Mathews on July 15, 1978 at a home ceremony surrounded by family and friends. They renewed their wedding vows on August 17, 1997 in a ceremony at Lakes Pond Baptist Church which became their home church.
Nancy had many occupations during her lifetime, but she was most proud of the business she operated with her husband, “Chores Done Cheerfully, LLC” along with acquiring her license to work as a financial representative with Primerica. Nancy was an animal lover and was devoted to her pets - she had many dogs and cats through the years that brought her great joy. Nancy was also a talented violinist and played in local orchestras as an adolescent and young adult. She renewed her interest in the violin later in life and sometimes played during mass services at Lakes Pond Baptist Church. Nancy was an avid gardener and keeper of many house plants – she could bring back almost any ailing greenery. Nancy was very proud of her collection of African Violets that she nurtured for many years. She enjoyed traveling with Allen during their semi-retirement, and their favorite vacation spot was Hawaii.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 8th from 11 am to 1 pm at the Gagne-Piechowoski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Griswold, CT. A mass will be celebrated at Lakes Pond Baptist Church, 1144 Hartford Turnpike, Waterford, CT on Saturday, September 9, at 11:00 am. Burial will be private at the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
