Melissa (Missy) Lee Ibbison, age 45, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Sunday, July 31st, 2022. The oldest of four siblings, Missy was born on February 26, 1977 in Westerly, Rhode Island. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1993 with a nearly perfect SAT score. Missy was accepted into Ivy League colleges but chose to further her education close to family at UCONN, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History and English. Hard-working and driven, Missy was an avid reader and studied history and law, while working toward her law degree.
Missy’s life was a quiet, humble, beautiful picture of selfless giving. Missy may have been the kindest person you could spend time with, and she unknowingly modeled the servant heart of Jesus in how she treated those around her. From every gift to each handwritten note, Missy was generous, kind, and thoughtful. Even in the midst of any struggles, Missy spent her days for others, and she was a beautiful and gentle gift to anyone who knew her. She was everything one may desire in a daughter, sister, and friend.
Always an optimist, Missy sought the good in others and never spoke unkindly about anyone. She was an interesting conversationalist who displayed a wide range of knowledge about many topics and who listened without judgment. She offered others safety and acceptance and made them feel special, often leaving her presence desiring to love others as Missy did.
She had a warm and thoughtful personality with the ability to make you feel valued and listened to, while laughing out loud together. Remembered as the life of the party, Missy was always laughing and smiling. Both brilliant and silly, Missy loved taking many adventures, shopping, dancing, and having fun. She loved the big city life, and for many years she took the train daily from Stamford into Manhattan to work in sales. Her homes were always beautifully decorated with detail and class.
A loyal sister and caring daughter, Missy sacrificed to provide a place to live, unconditional love, and daily care for her family for many years. She is loved and cherished by her brothers, sister, mother, family, her lifelong best friend, her special cousin, and many other friendships.
Missy was a brilliant shooting star that shined all too briefly. May we all honor Missy’s giving legacy by serving those around us and putting ourselves second for others.
Missy was predeceased by her father, James Ibbison. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Sally (Ibbison) and Frank Busch, her brother James (Rachel) Ibbison, her sister Sarah (Jared) Renzoni, her brother Thomas Ibbison, her nieces and nephews, along with her aunts and uncles, cousins, many friends, and her loyal lifelong best friend, Melanie Surfus.
A graveside celebration for Missy will be held on Thursday, August 11th, at 11:00 a.m. at Pachaug Cemetery in Griswold, CT. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor the life of Missy.
