Maxxwel Lee Edward Piolunek

Maxxwel Lee Edward Piolunek of Voluntown, Connecticut passed away at the age of 20 on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Hartford Hospital after a very brief but hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born on September 12, 2004 in Norwich to Brian and Crystal (Charette) Piolunek of Voluntown. 

Maxx was a 2022 graduate of Norwich Free Academy where he dedicated much of his time to playing lacrosse and football.  Maxx especially excelled at lacrosse and after graduation, he continued to play for both Dean College and ECSU.  He was a die-hard Patriots fan, but he loved sports in general and had an amazing memory for statistics.  Despite his focus on athletics and commitment to fitness, Maxx also appreciated everything nerdy, especially anything Star Wars related.

His family, friends and teammates meant the world to him and he loved them immensely.  He was terrific with kids and truly cherished the time he spent with his cousin Rowan as well as being “BIg Brother” to both Cameron and Jack Ferra, children of close family friends.  Maxx was easygoing, goofy, and sarcastic and he loved to make people smile and laugh.  He was adventurous and courageous and everyone he knew has a great “Maxx” story.   He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his parents, his grandmother Robin Piolunek of Plainfield, grandparents Jennie and Larry Charette of Voluntown, aunt and uncle Mandi and Matt Winkis and their son Rowan of Danielson, and Maxx’s girlfriend Savannah Whisman of Montville.  Maxx was predeceased by his grandfather W. Bill “Papa Moose” Piolunek and great grandmother Georgette “Meme” Grenier. 

A funeral service will be held 11:00AM November 23, 2024 at Voluntown Baptist Church, Voluntown, Connecticut.
