Born in Providence, RI on October 9, 1956 to the late Matthew Clancy, Jr. and Christine (Izzo) Clancy.

Matt married his best friend and love of his life Linda (Woodmansee) Clancy on September 16, 1978 at Saint James Church in Danielson, CT.  Together, they became parents of their son, Kyle Clancy who also survives him.  Matt was a loving and devoted husband to Linda and proud and caring father to Kyle and will be forever loved, missed and cherished.

Anyone who was lucky enough to meet Matt as either a soldier, co-worker, neighbor, acquaintance or fellow wood turner knew they had a loyal friend for life.

Matt grew up in Danielson, CT.  He was a Boy Scout in troop 43 and became an Eagle Scout nine days after his sixteenth birthday.

Matt enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 15, 1974 before he graduated from Killingly High School that same year.  He then became a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army for three years.  He served in the CT National Guard for another twenty-eight years retiring as a Master Sergeant on August 30, 2015 from HQS, 169th Regional Training Institute (RTI) in Niantic, CT.  Matt was deployed as a Military Policeman in 12/1990 through 6/1991 for Operation Desert Storm in Dahran, Saudi Arabia for six months.  He was also deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom 3/2003-3/2004 and again 6/2008-7/2009 with 1109th AVCRAD in Groton, CT to Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.  He received numerous awards and commendations during his career in the U.S. Army and was always proud that he served his country to preserve freedom for all Americans.

Matt worked at Electric Boat in Groton, CT as a Welder and Welding Supervisor from 12/1977 until 1/1995.

Matt started his career as a Correctional Officer for the State of Connecticut at Corrigan/Radgowski in Uncasville, CT in March of 1995, retiring in July 2015.  He received many awards for his service in corrections.  Matt remained friends with many of his correction brothers after retiring.

Matt worked as Public Safety Officer at Backus Hospital part time from November 2017 until December 2019.  He enjoyed working with quite a few of his fellow retired Department of Corrections friends at the hospital.

He and Linda enjoyed traveling, antique shopping, working in their yard and gardens together.  Matt always wanted to fish in Alaska and they traveled to Vancouver, B.C. and then cruised to Alaska in August, 2019.  Matt also enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.

After retirement, Matt started his hobby of woodturning and was a founding member of Eastern Connecticut Woodturners in Lisbon, CT.  He enjoyed being with his friends and always helped with their events.

Matt was predeceased by his maternal grandparents; John and Mary Izzo who he adored and also by his in-laws; Horace and Phyliss Woodmansee, who were very special to him as well.
