Mary “Georgette” (Bourassa) Lisee, formerly of Jewett City, CT, passed away peacefully at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Plainfield on December 5, 2020.
Georgette was born on October 24, 1928 in Jewett City and was the daughter of the late Homer Fournier and Yvonne (Berger) Fournier. On November 27, 1947, she married the late Marcel Bourassa in St. Mary’s Church in Jewett City. The couple built a home in town where Georgette raised 5 boys while working in area businesses including the United Merchants, Ashland Mills, Clinipad and Delta Rubber. Her husband predeceased her after 46 years of marriage.
On May 14, 2005, Mary married Joseph “Red” Lisee who had been her first boyfriend 62 years prior. The “newlyweds” spent much of their fifteen years of marriage traveling all over the country and Canada with the St. Mary’s Travel Group. Red predeceased her earlier this year.
Georgette was an active member of St. Anne’s Church, the Griswold and Canterbury Senior Centers, the Jacques Cartier French Club, the St. Mary’s Travel Group, and the Jewett City VFW. She was an avid crafter, cake decorator and loved arranging social gatherings. She was a gregarious, energetic presence with a contagious, child-like love of life and was adored by all who had the good fortune to know her.
Georgette is survived by her sister, Irene (Fournier) Morgan formally of Norwich, CT and four sons and their wives, Robert (Carolyn) Bourassa of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Donald (Jennifer) Bourassa of Littleton, NH, Dennis (Patricia) Bourassa of Newbury, NH and Roger (Marjorie) Bourassa of Mechanicsville, Virginia. Her middle son, Rene P. Bourassa Sr, predeceased her. Grandchildren include Jill, Natalee, Edmond, Christopher, Aimee, Jennifer, Rene Jr, Jeremy and Kyle. Georgette is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid-19 protocols, only a private graveside service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
