Margaret Theodora (Kapsounis) Johansen

Margaret T. (Kapsounis) Johansen, 52, of Sterling, CT died on February 16th, surrounded by family.  She is survived by her children, Alex, Jordan, and Thomas Johansen and Natanael Jr. and Vanessa Mendez; her grandchild, Clayton Johansen; her mother, Sappho Kapsounis; her sister, Helen Karamanakis, and Helen’s husband, Anastasios; her former husband, Paul Johansen; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends throughout New England, New York, and Greece.  She is predeceased by her husband, Natanael Mendez, and her father, Alexandros Kapsounis. 

She was born to Greek immigrants, Alexandros and Sappho, in Astoria, Queens on March 6, 1971.  She moved to Dudley, MA with her family at age six and graduated from Shepherd Hill Regional High School and Worcester Technical Institute.  She then worked in the food service industry for over thirty years, including with her family at Dudley House of Pizza and at 4Gs Restaurant and Pizza in Dayville, CT, where she made many friends.  Margaret loved her coworkers and regular customers, and they loved her back. 

She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beaches of Greece and Cape Cod, and spending time with her children at water parks, campgrounds, ice cream shops, and other fun places.  Margaret was an authentic, lively, and fiercely independent person.  Her family and friends will remember her for her loving generosity and they will miss her wicked sense of humor. 

Her funeral is on February 21st, with a service at 10:00 AM at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Lake Parkway, Webster, MA.  Burial will follow at Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold, CT.  Calling hours are also on February 21st, from 9:00 until 10:00 AM, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
