Linda Lucille “Lucy” Freemer, 77, of Montville, Connecticut, passed away at her home on 9 April 2023. Linda was born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, on 8 June 1945, to the late Paul and Leona Eaton. She graduated from Ridgway High School in June 1963 and married her high school sweetheart, Raymond John Freemer (1942-2014), in August 1963. After seventeen years of marriage, they divorced in 1980.
Linda worked at H&R Block and retired from Mohegan Sun Casino. She was known for her singular wit and sense of humor. In the 1980s, she once outsmarted a robber at gunpoint, who was promptly arrested by the New London Police Department. Linda was sometimes a victim of her own talent and success, hilariously so: she loved to sew but was so good at it she once hemmed the same leg twice. Linda loved a good book and spent decades reading everything from Danielle Steele to D. H. Lawrence.
Linda was predeceased by her fiancé, Lloyd H. “Fletch” Thompson, on 15 September 2022. She is survived by her loving sister, Joyce Steis of Ridgway, Pennsylvania; as well as her three children, Marianne E. Trehern of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Raymond J. Freemer, Jr. of New London, Connecticut, and Michael Freemer of Portland, Maine; her three grandchildren, Courtney, Amanda, and Jacob; and her six great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Olivia, Elijah, Weston, Emmie, and Riley, who were her pride and joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local library to honor Linda’s lifelong love of books. A private ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family. The Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
