Kenneth Martin Obituary

Griswold - Kenneth Paul Martin 57, beloved husband of Cynthia Jean (Fournier) Martin, died Tuesday, May 11, 2021 peacefully at home with his wife by his side. He was born January 18, 1964 in Norwich, CT to Joseph K. Martin & the late Noella B. (Phaneuf) Martin.  Ken was a 1982 graduate of Norwich Free Academy. He attended Norwich Tech with a postgraduate degree in auto mechanics for 2 years. He then attended Denver Automotive & Diesel College for 18 months attaining his certification.  He returned to CT and began working at Goodwin Pontiac for a few years until he started a career with Ryder.  Ken has been with Ryder for over 31 years. He started in 1989 in the Montville location, then on to Dayville for some time before settling in at the Waterford Coca-Cola branch as a TIC.  Ken’s passion was fishing, which he did almost every weekend for most of his life. He bought himself a boat and enjoyed spending time fishing with his friends on weekends. He loved traveling abroad with his wife—their most recent trips with their travel buddies were to Egypt and Morocco and were quite memorable.  Ken had a love of refurbishing antique cars including a Karmann Ghia and his beloved 1967 Pontiac Firebird that was his pride and joy.  Late last year Ken was diagnosed with a very progressive form of ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease.  He and his wife appreciated everyone who came to visit and helped him during this difficult time.  Ken is survived by his wife Cynthia of 29 years, (they were high school sweethearts & met 40 years ago); his father Joseph K. Martin; his sister Karen Tetreault, her husband Timothy & their children Kurt, Emmett (& his wife Sara) & Calla; a brother-in-law Brian & his daughters Denee and Kalyn, and mother in law Florida Fournier, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.  He was predeceased by his mother Noella B. (Phaneuf) Martin.
