Joseph Richard Landry

Griswold- Joseph Richard Landry, 91, of Voluntown Road, Griswold, CT died Friday, December 3, 2021 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT.  He was born September 16, 1930 in Fishers Island, New York to the late Alfred & Florence (Gauvin) Landry.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Diana Paula (Button) Landry.

Joseph honorably served his country in the US Air Force and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska in the 1950’s.  He worked for 27 years as an installer for SNET and climbed telephone poles.  Retiring in 1983, he next obtained his state certification as an abatement contractor and worked for the Catholic Dioceses of Norwich, Hartford and Bridgeport, CT doing abatement removal and containment.  He was a businessman and a realtor. 

Joseph was a member of the Griswold Board of Finance for 7 years.  He was a regular communicant of St. Thomas and Anne Church in Voluntown as well as St. Mary’s in Jewett City.

His survivors are his daughter, Doneen Sulik of Griswold; son-in-law and daughter, Marco & Dorla Barres of Jewett City; three grandchildren Preston Sulik, Jacob Sulik as well as Connor Sulik and her fiance’, John Surprenant.

Joseph is survived by his brother, Louis Landry of Franklin, CT; his sister, Mrs. Viola Mulcahy of Montville, CT; his sister, Mrs. Lorraine Baumgardner of Henderson, Virginia. 

He was predeceased by his brothers, Roy Landry, Alfred Landry, Francis Landry and Donald Landry, along with a sister Marie Leo.

A calling hour will be held from 8:45-9:45AM, Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT.  A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church, Jewett City, CT.  Burial will follow at Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold, CT.  For online condolences please go to www.gagnefuneralhome.com
