Joseph Churma

Joseph Churma, 88, of Griswold passed away February 17, 2024 at his home peaceably in his sleep. He was born August 27, 1935 in Scranton PA. Joseph was married to Sheila (Suhovich) Churma for 66 years before her passing last year February 2nd. Joseph is survived by his four children Joseph A. Churma, of Griswold , Gregory M. Churma of Monks Corner, SC, Teresa B. Churma of Voluntown and Leslie A. Gaucher of Voluntown. Joseph is also survived by three grandchildren TJ, Tristin, Brock and two great grandchildren Rowen Joseph and Avery Jane, with 1 on the way. Joseph graduated from Munhall, PA High School 1954. He then joined the US Navy and became a submariner radio man. He met and married Shelia, then left the Navy and over the years he went to an accounting collage and eventually went to Northeastern University with graduating in accounting and business with a bachelor’s degree. During Joseph’s working carrier he obtained a career at General Dynamics Corp as a Financial Analyst and in time obtained promotions until becoming an upper management Plant Comptroller. After 25 years plus Joseph left General Dynamics and then became Corporate Comptroller for Bird Johnson Corp (USA) for 10 years plus and then retired. A calling hour will be held from 10:00-11:00AM Monday, February 26, 2024 with Memorial service to immediately follow at 11:00AM the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold.
