John Joseph Semancik, Jr.

John J. Semancik, Jr., 78, of 25 Richard Road, East Hartford, Ct, passed away at his home on May 9, 2024. He was born on June 8, 1945, in Norwich, Ct, son of the late John Sr., and Matilda (Trasko). He married Janis Shaine on June 6, 1970 and they have two sons, John, Jr., of Enfield, Ct, and Barry of Centerville, Ma. Other survivors include a brother, Richard, of Grantville, Pa, a sister, Susan, of Snow Hill, Md, and, 4 grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, Abby, and Jack, a nephew, several great-nephews, and a great-niece. 

John was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where he excelled at multiple sports, and spent many years as a programmer/analyst for Travelers Insurance Company. He will be especially remembered as someone who laughed easily, and loved deeply, especially his family, stray cats, fishing adventures with his Dad and brother, and any Boston Red Sox or Celtics game. 

An open viewing will be held at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home in Jewett City on Wednesday, May 15 from 11:30AM-12:30PM for any who wishes to attend, followed at 1:00PM by a graveside service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lisbon, CT.

The Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home has care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to a charity of the donor’s choice or simply plant a tree or flower, or adopt a shelter cat or dog in his memory.
