John W. Harrington (1946-2025)

John W. Harrington, 78, of Griswold, CT, died at home with his wife by his side on June 27, 2025.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 23, 1946 to the late Paul F. Harrington and Mary W. Harrington. John was a devoted husband to his wife of nearly 42 years, Kitty Harrington, and a loving father to his only daughter, Shauna Harrington.

John dedicated his career to General Dynamics, spending 39 years at the shipbuilding facility in Quincy, MA, advancing to the Data Systems Division in Norwich, CT, and finally ending his career as the Director of Integrated Technology for General Dynamics/Marine Division, which included Electric Boat in Groton, CT and Bath Iron Works, Bath, ME before retiring in 2007. John had a love for classic cars, having owned two he kept in mint condition. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and traveling the country with his loving wife.

Those who love John will always remember him for his quick-witted sense of humor, enjoying time spent with family, and pulling a good prank. He is survived by his wife, Kitty Harrington, his daughter, Shauna Harrington, his son-in-law, Chris Kilburn, his brother, Jeff Harrington, and several nieces and nephews who viewed him like a father and whom he loved very dearly, thinking of himself in the same way. John also leaves behind two beloved dogs, Josie and Holly.

Calling hours will take place on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 5-7 PM at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home at 490 Voluntown Road, Griswold, CT 06351. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Connecticut Humane Society.
