Jean Agnes (Smullen) Tedeschi

Mystic - Jean Agnes Tedeschi passed away peacefully March 13, 2022 in Westerly RI. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Raudenbush) Smullen. She was pre-deceased by her husband Ralph Tedeschi and her brother Donald Smullen.  Born on May 4th, 1931 in Chester PA, Jean resided most of her life in Preston and then Mystic CT.  She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy in 1949, and received her Associates Degree in Accounting from Mohegan Community College in 1976. Jean worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for several automobile dealers throughout Norwich, and then in 1976 she moved on to work as an Assistant Fiscal Officer for the State of CT.  She retired from the workforce in 1985.

Jean was passionate about music throughout her life; she played piano and sang in her church choir for many years. She recalled that as a child she sang on a local radio station and one year at the Brooklyn Fair.  Along with playing the piano, she also taught herself to restore and then sell them.  In addition to this she was an avid quilter and watercolorist. She participated in many local art shows. While living in Preston, her true passion were her flower rock gardens.  She took great pride in the fact that come springtime people would drive by her home and take pictures of her rock gardens. 

Jean is survived by her children Mark and his wife Cheryl of Pawcatuck, Paul and his wife Nancy of Voluntown, Brian and his wife Suzanne of Pawcatuck and Brenda and her partner Max Weagle of Leominster MA.  She will be greatly missed by her many, very loving and caring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves her dearest friend of over 50 years, Harriet and her “newer” friend of 10 years, Jackie. 

Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT.  A funeral service will be 10:00AM Monday, March 21, 2022 at Preston City Congregational Church, Preston, CT.  Burial will immediately follow at Preston City Cemetery, Preston, CT.  For online condolences please go to www.gagnefuneralhome.com
