Today, October 22, 2024, in Voluntown, my loving and devoted husband, James Stewart Williams, 79, passed on to be with our Lord and Savior. He was born in Putnam, CT on April 7, 1945. Jim was a loving soul who was always there for his family. He devoted his life to his wife, Terry (Nylund), for 60 years; with 57 years of marriage, since November 19, 1966, who survives him. Together, we have 3 awesome sons: John Williams of Griswold, CT, Clint and his wife Kimberly Williams of Colchester, CT, and Jason and his wife Michelle Williams of Voluntown, CT, all of whom survive him as well. Jim loved our sons so very, very much and was so proud of each! He too loved his grandchildren a great deal and was so proud to be their Grampa: Tyler and Ashley Williams of Voluntown, CT and Chase and Chelsea Williams of Colchester, CT. Jim was the son of John and Alice Williams of Plainfield, CT. He was also the "son" of Harold and Helen Nylund of Canterbury, CT. He loved Mom's cooking and her Sour Cream Coffee cake. He so loved them and they he.
Jim leaves behind sister-n-laws Nancy and Susan, brothers-n-laws Don and Keith and nieces Jill, Lynn, Suzanne and nephews Brett and Travis and great-nephew Henry.
Jim was a member of Voluntown Baptist Church. A special thank you to Pastor Andrzej and Mrs. April (Yaworski) Korytkowski of Voluntown Baptist Church for their spiritual guidance in our times of need: Philippians 1 Verse 21 especially: “For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Hospice was a great help in Jim’s recent times. Hospice nurse Sheila Sabolesky and Jim became great buddies. Sheila was wonderful. His caregiver, Charles, was a terrific help to Jim as well.
Jim was a Winchester enthusiast and would hunt deer during the season. He so enjoyed playing cards and old tools. Years ago, during his off time, he was a manager for a Little League baseball team in Plainfield, CT. Jim was a member of the 250th Army Engineers National Guard Troop out of Danielson, CT in the 1960’s. He was an avid Teamster and held various officer positions within Teamster Local 493. He was a strong Teamster, so much so that many of his co-workers fondly nicknamed him , “Hoffa”! He held many jobs over 30 years as a Teamster truck driver. He had such a talent for driving the big rigs. His most favorite job was working for a Canadian company, Mammoet, with his buddy Joey Craig. As an example, there would be 100 tires under a platform carrying super heavy loads. Mammoet got the jobs that no other company could do, and Jim loved it all. He and Joey had such a blast working together for Mammoet; a great friendship!
Jim was a great provider, always caring for his family and putting them first. One of his greatest accomplishments was building our home on Beach Pond. He lived there for 52 years. "And together, the two of them built a home they loved." Jim absolutely loved living on Beach Pond. From birth he was brought there, and those visits continued for years while he grew. Beach Pond was the perfect place to raise our 3 sons. Jim was one swell father, husband, friend and man.
Aside from myself, Jim will sorely be missed by our 3 sons, Kim and Michelle, grandchildren, family and loyal friends. It's so hard letting such a loved one go, but he is no longer suffering and Jim is with our Lord. Because of his personality, wherever he went, Jim kept many people upbeat and laughing. He sure was a most wonderful man. Until we meet in Heaven, I love you Jimmy. You were my soulmate and we sure were a devoted team. I miss you; so very, very much already. You completed me. Rest easy now sweetheart. We had a love like no other, so very blessed, Terry.
