Gerald Castle Beals, most commonly known as Jerry, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024, at the age of 82 in Hartford, CT. He was born on February 26, 1941 in Brattleboro, Vermont to his parents Charles and Katherine Beals.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Amelita Beals, daughter Katrina Owens and her husband Donnie Owens along with their son Castle Owens. He is also survived by his loving dog, Rafa.
Jerry was an incredible man who left an impression on anyone he met. He was a kind soul who welcomed a friendly conversation with everyone - young or old. He lived an adventurous life, never afraid to try something new and always looking for his next great hobby and spent much of his time providing an exceptional life for his wife and daughter.
His primary career was for the State of Connecticut as a lab supervisor for gravel and asphalt. He often spoke of the pride he took in the quality of his work - even years after his retirement. Other than working for the state, Jerry was also a member of the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He also spent some time working at Mount Snow as a ski-patroller on the weekends which enabled him to live out his passion for skiing as a profession.
Gerald was an incredibly passionate man, immersing himself fully into his next favorite interest. He had an affinity for travel and told countless stories of all of the places he was able to visit. Gardening was another passion of his, one he was able to share with his wife. Together, they had an intricate and astounding garden with plants ranging from hydrangeas to massive banana trees that were always a great conversation starter among those who walked by. He also had a strong love for fitness and health. He held records in powerlifting competitions and always pushed himself to see what new things his body could do whether that be in running, biking, or strength workouts. His most recent hobby was researching Tesla. He would spend hours learning about the latest innovation the company was offering and in 2021, he was able to fulfill his dream of owning a Tesla Model Y.
A wake is scheduled to be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 5-7 at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, CT 06351.
