Flora Marie (Ford) Harman, 71, of Voluntown Connecticut, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 02, 2025.
Better known as Doll, she grew up in Waterford, CT, and graduated from Waterford High School in 1972. The following day, she wed her lifelong partner, Hyde [Bud], who would be by her side until the end. Doll and Bud moved to Voluntown in 1975, where they raised three children, goats, horses, and many other animals. Doll was heavily involved in Voluntown’s local government, being on multiple town boards and committees, as well as being the animal control officer for nearly 30 years. She was an accomplished dressage rider, carriage driver, and dog breeder. Many locals will remember her bringing Santa to the post office in a horse drawn sleigh. She was an active member in the Saddle Sores Riding Club, as well as the Tri-State Horseman’s Association. She volunteered her time with local youths, from the Brownie Scouts to leading the Goat Getter’s 4-H club. She will be remembered for her love of animals, children, and the community of Voluntown.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Hyde Alexander Harman III, and three children; Flora [Peaches] Marie Hitchery (Kevin), Joshua Wayne Harman (Tricia), and Jacob Kyle Harman. She also leaves behind two brothers, Claude and Wayne, as well as her 6 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home, Jewett City, CT. A Funeral Service will be 10:00AM Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
