Eugene Franklin Cornell, 59, of Norwich CT and the greater area of southeast CT has passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and guarded by his beloved dog Lilybear on Monday, May 25th. He was born to David Cornell Sr. and the late Sandra Slack in Westerly Hospital on November 3, 1966. He will be joining his daughter Sativa Elizabeth Cornell in the afterlife, united once again.
He graduated Wheeler High School in North Stonington CT in the early to mid 80’s finding himself a long and fruitful career in becoming a master craftsman in the art of cabinetry/woodworking. The love of the craft was only surpassed by the love he had for his children. The joy of building brought him peace to his heart whether it be a project or family, his skill knows no match.
He is survived by his son Ty Cornell who holds onto his legacy of a craftsman, His brothers Kurt Cornell and Scott Cornell, his Father David Cornell Sr and stepmother Joanne Cornell. He will always be a father whose love for his children is so immense, the stars can feel its gravity.
My father and I had so many great adventures, from camping trips to music festivals we have traveled to places most are too scared to go. But this old man showed me with actions that I have nothing to fear in this life and all it takes to get there is a cup of coffee. If I could leave you with wise words from a man I will admire for an eternity, “Chill out and don't worry, it ain’t that serious”.
We will be having services for my father Sunday May 31 at
Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home located at 490 Voluntown Road | Jewett City, CT 06351
Doors open at 9am the service will start at 10am followed by a very short bedding of the ash ceremony at Robbins cemetery in Voluntown CT, lead by the Son. Please wear colors, my father wasn't very fond of tradition and loved colors and feel free to bring a singular flower to place into the grave after the ash ceremony.
