Jewett City – Ernest L. Beauregard age 98, of Jewett City, passed away on August 6, 2024. Surrounded by his children and grandchildren, Ernest passed peacefully at the W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.
Ernest was born to the late Leo and Arzelia Beauregard on July 27, 1926. He grew up in Taftville where he attended and received his High School diploma from Norwich Free Academy (NFA). Shortly before graduation he served his country during WW II as a member of the United States Air Force assigned to the Air Service Group in Foggia, Italy. He was honorably discharged in December of 1946 after serving as a tail gunner on both the B-17 and B-24 bombers.
On September 6, 1948 he married the late Victoria E. Nichols at All Hallows Church in Moosup, CT where they would begin a blissful 56 year marriage until her passing in 2004. He is also pre-deceased by one brother, Roy.
Though recognized for his acumen in the Research, Development, and Quality Assurance of all wire products (completing a 40-year career that was equally split between Triangle Wire & Cable and Wyre Wynd Inc.) Ernie is perhaps best-known for his love, dedication, and forte when it came to the sport of golf. During his membership at three of New London County’s most well-recognized courses, he accomplished one of the rarest feats among millions of amateur golfers – he was able to shoot his age from the year 2001-2018 -an unimaginable 17 straight years of shooting between 75 & 92 on regulation PGA-recognized courses. Needless to say, in a foursome match of 2 on 2 most players were hoping Ernie was their partner and not their opponent.
Ernie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his children James Beauregard of Wellesley, MA, John Beauregard and his wife Judy of Norwich; grandchildren Danielle Beauregard of Brooklyn CT, Monique Beauregard of Norwich, Julien Beauregard of Wellesley, MA and Dylan Beauregard of Chatham, MA.
The family wishes to thank the staff of both the Critical Care Unit and Hospice Unit at WW Backus Hospital for the compassion and support they extended to the entire Beauregard family during this difficult time.
A Mass will be held at 11:30AM on August 22, 2024 at St. Mary’s Church, 34 N. Main St. Jewett City, CT. Burial will be held privately. There are no calling hours.
