Donald Everett Burdick Jr. ("Big D"), 66, of Griswold, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2025, on “Burdick Island”.
Don was born on June 29, 1959, in Norwich, Connecticut, to the late Virginia Taylor and Donald Burdick Sr. He lived in the same Griswold residence his entire life, where he built a home filled with love, hard work, and laughter.
Don had a special talent for fixing small engines, and he was always ready to lend a hand in the garage or under the hood. He had a deep love for Ford Motor Company and Indian motorcycles, and when he wasn’t getting his hands dirty, you’d likely find him outside — hiking through the mountains of New England, soaking in the peace of the woods he cherished.
But above all else, Don’s heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 37 years, Lori Burdick, and a proud father to Donnie and Sara Burdick of Voluntown, CT, Cory Burdick and Hollie Seiler of Keene, NH, and Chris LaFlesh of Norwich, CT. His grandchildren, Donald (DB) Burdick IV and Hadley Burdick, were the light of his life — his pride and joy. Nothing made him happier than being “Grandpa” and watching his grandchildren grow.
Don is survived by his wife Lori, his children and grandchildren, and his siblings Davey Burdick and Doreen Burdick, in addition to many close friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Debbie Burdick.
Those who knew Don will remember a man who would do anything for anyone and a neighbor you could always count on. His generosity and sense of humor touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in every life he helped.
The family intends to host a celebration of Don’s life and they will share details at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “A Reason to Ride”, an organization that was near and dear to his heart. Don was a true patriot and believed in giving back to those who served.
