Dawn Lamothe Obituary

Dawn Lynne Lamothe, 60, passed away unexpectedly in her home, on September 19, 2022. Born in Groton, CT and a longtime resident of Griswold CT, Dawn lived a wonderfully full and adventurous life. A two-time cancer survivor, Dawn lived life unapologetically. She was bold and blunt, yet honest and kind. She was an attentive mother, who always had wisdom to share with her two sons, Chevy and Dylan, whom she loved deeply. She loved to teach them new things, especially in the kitchen, because she wanted them to be able to confidently take care of themselves. She was a great cook and her pasta salad and jello shots were highly sought after at family picnics and holidays. In addition to her sons, Dawn leaves behind her adoring husband, Jeff Lamothe. Dawn and Jeff were married on July 21, 2001, and enjoyed spending time out and about, whether out dancing & playing pool, or exploring Olde Mystic Village, which was their favorite place to celebrate their anniversary.

Dawn enjoyed spending time at the casino, where she loved to play the slots and eat pizza at her favorite restaurant, Pepe’s. She loved nature and soaking up the sun by her backyard pond on sunny days. Dawn had style, wearing big floppy hats in the sun and her “kick-ass” boots on a night out, and she rocked the heck out of both of them. She lived life to the fullest but also loved to unwind with her good friend, mary jane. She enjoyed visiting Hawaii and had an absolute blast in Las Vegas in the summer of 2021 when she visited there with family and checked off a bucket list item in the process.

Dawn worked many years as a dental assistant at Dr. Arnold Benak’s office in East Lyme. Upon retiring, she decided that the wasn’t quite finished working, and joined the team at Better Val*U in Lisbon, where she was a cashier. Her friendly demeanor and radiant personality at the registers earned her quite the following of loyal customers, always happy to see her and chat her up while cashing out their groceries.

Dawn is survived by her husband Jeffery Lamothe; her sons Dylan Lamothe and Chevy Ely and daughter in law Kellie; her sister Cathy and husband Cliff McCullough; sister Pam and husband Peter Rybakiewicz; brother, Ken Miller; sister-in-law, Karen Miller; her longtime best friend Holly Lauver, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother, Betty Miller; father, Reuben Miller; sister, Dottie Kamuda and her brother, Gary Miller.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
