Claire Louise (Bachand) LaPointe

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our mother, Claire Louise (Bachand) LaPointe, 92.  She passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, seated in her favorite chair with family by her side.

Claire was born on Saturday, April 15, 1933, in Jewett City, the daughter of the late Ernest and Cora (Morey) Bachand. She grew up in Jewett City, attending St. Mary School and Griswold High School, graduating in 1951.

She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Francis E. LaPointe, on November 5, 1955, in St. Mary Church in Jewett City. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Francis predeceased her on June 23, 2021.

A devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Church in Jewett City, Claire held many roles through the years—bookkeeper, secretary, crafter, and clerk—but none more cherished than her role as Mom and Memere.

She is survived by her seven children: Barbara (John) Turner of NC, Donald (Mariann) LaPointe, John LaPointe, Paul (Kathy) LaPointe, Karen Richardson, Jean LaPointe, and Carol LaPointe of the Jewett City area; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister Virginia Marion. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Francis Bachand, Mary Lamothe, Margaret Ouillette, Arlene Brown, and Eleanor Nowakowski.

Claire maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, and her appreciation of her long life with the love of family and friends. She loved sharing sweet moments over coffee and donuts or homemade lemon squares and whoopie pies. Her light will be forever missed, remembered with gratitude, and kept close to all our hearts.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 2:00-4:00PM at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM Monday, November 17, 2025 at St. Mary’s Church, Jewett City, CT.  Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Griswold.
