Catherine Gloria Proulx of Jewett City, CT, a beloved mother, sister, and friend entered eternal rest on December 3, 2022, at the W.W. Backus Hospital, Norwich, CT.
She was born in Norwich, CT to the late William and Sophie (Prokop) Minta. She attended St. Mary School, Griswold High School and continued her education at the university of life and hard knocks. In 1955 she married Joseph Brogno and had three children Kathleen, Diane and Joseph. After divorcing she later married Louis Proulx of Jewett City in 1972 and had a son Louis Proulx, Jr.
She worked at the Thermos Company in Norwich, Plastic Wire and Cable and then went on to facilitate her most notable occupation as owner of Cathy and Lou’s Snack Bar in the Hopeville area of Griswold, CT. Her and husband Lou fed and entertained many a folk over the course of the 80’s and early 90’s. She was later also part owner of the Checkered Flag Restaurant in Preston, CT.
She not only worked hard but enjoyed life to the same degree, enjoying family time at the cabin, vacationing in Florida for weeks at a time in November and routinely collaborating for visits with friends and family. She also was a patron of the local casinos with her husband where she made friends and relaxed.
If you were lucky enough to stop by the home of Catherine on Sunday morning, she would infect you with music of her favorite Polkas. Polkas were her way of spreading laughter and happiness. She encompassed a great ear for listening when you were having a difficult time and the cup of cheer when you needed it most.
The one thing she was most proud of in life were her children and their families. She loved spending time with them and always made a point to hug, kiss and tell them “I love you, may God bless and watch over you always.”
Catherine was predeceased by her husband Lou, her sister Laura Krodel and brother Joseph Minta.
She is survived by her sisters Maryann Pavlak of Norwich, CT, Johanna Fowler and husband Wayne of Norwict, CT, brothers John Minta of Kodak, TN, and Leon Minta and wife Ann of Joplin, MO, daughters Kathleen Brady of Punta Gorda, FL and Diane Harrelle of Umatilla, FL, sons Joseph Proulx of Jewett City, CT and Louis Proulx, Jr. of Oneco, CT.
