Carol Dugas Obituary

Carol A. Dugas (King) passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2025, in the care of hospice after a 12-year battle with cancer.

Carol was born in Norwich, CT, on November 3rd, 1954, to William and Emily King. They lived in Plainfield, where she grew up and met her husband, Harry Dugas, who was a guitarist in a band with her brother. Carol married Harry on July 3rd, 1971, and began working at Backus Hospital as a nurse's aide, always striving to advance to other departments. She worked as an instrument technician and, before leaving, was responsible for setting up the operating room. In 1991 Carol left Backus Hospital to pursue a career change at Ledyard High School.

Carol loved to laugh and was notorious for starting conversations with strangers everywhere she went. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Jennifer, and cherished spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren, Jillian and Coral. Carol took pride in her home and enjoyed making it beautiful. She also loved visiting Stonington, CT, where she spent much of her childhood with her grandparents. In her adult life, she often went to the beach with friends, sharing childhood memories.

Carol was a wonderful homemaker; she could sew beautifully and cooked many delicious meals. Always on the go, she would drive anywhere near and far to shop, and she was always up for a spur-of-the-moment shopping trip or beach day. She loved to help and take care of everyone.

Carol will be greatly missed for her zest for life, big heart, and sense of adventure. She was predeceased by her father, William King, and her mother, Emily King. She is survived by her husband, Harry G. Dugas; daughter, Jennifer L. Tilden; two brothers, Faron and Dennis King; grandchildren, Jillian L. Wickard and Coral A. Redlin; and two great-grandchildren, Aydin and Jewele Wickard.

A very special thank you to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, hospice, and family and friends who surrounded her in her final days.

A memorial service will be held on January 8th at 11 AM. Services will be located at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 22 Broad St., Stonington, CT 06378.
