Blanche Stetson Perry 90 of Griswold passed away peacefully on October 13th. Blanche was born in Jewett City at her grandmother's house while her parents were visiting.
Blanche lived in Pachaug her entire life and grew up in Pachaug Center in the days of Morgan’s Store & post office, Bitgood’s Blacksmith and Wagon Shop (which later became her grandfather’s Esso Gas Station), Goldstein’s Grain Store, The Congregational Church, the Pachaug Grange Hall, and her father’s business Stetson’s School Bus Service. Blanche went to school at the Pachaug School house and later graduated from Griswold High School in 1950. She was good at basketball and softball in school and also played for the Jewett City softball team, “The Comets”. Not only did she graduate from Griswold High School but she went on to work there for many years as a secretary.
She was always involved with events at the Pachaug Grange, Pachaug Fair, going to square dances and helping with church events like the turkey supper. Blanche belonged to the Ledyard Walkers and enjoyed walking with them well into her 80’s. She had quite a few hobbies including stained glass, quilling, and card making.
Blanche’s father, Wayland Stetson, Sr. & her brother Wayland Stetson, Jr. were some of the founding members of the Griswold Volunteer Fire Department. She was involved in the firemen’s lady's aide for many years. Her dad was the first fire chief.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Griswold and went to the church her whole life.
She married Owen Perry in 1980 and had many good years camping, sailing, and going on several trips before he passed away.
Blanche is survived by her daughter, Patricia Gluck and her husband Mark, her son Ron Johnson, three grandchildren, Erik Johnson, Mark and Adrian Gluck her three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Erin, and Owen Gluck. She is also survived by her sister, Miriam Belisle.
She was predeceased by her husband, Owen Perry Jr, her son Alan Johnson, and her grandson Andrew Gluck. She is also predeceased by her parents Blanche Montgomery Stetson and Wayland Stetson Sr, her sister Patricia Hoffman and brothers Wayland and William Stetson.
Blanche was a caring and wonderful mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00AM at the First Congregational Church of Griswold. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
