Voluntown - It is with sadness, but grateful for a long life well lived, that we announce the death of Anne Olsen on December 24 at the age of 93. Anne was born December 13, 1928 in Coventry, the only daughter of six children born to Herman & Nettie LeDoyt. Graduating from Windham High School in 1946, Anne attended the Boston Conservatory of Music where she mastered her skills on both the organ & piano.
She met her future husband John Olsen, while the organist at a friend’s wedding. They married July 5, 1952 and were married for 58 years until John’s death in 2010.
Anne moved to Voluntown in 1955 when John was assigned by the Forestry Department to run the State’s nursery in Griswold. Together, Anne & John established the Olsen’s Christmas Tree Farm and were very active in the Connecticut Christmas Tree Association since its inception. Anne was the organist at the Voluntown Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved to help at the town’s election polls and was active on the town’s library committee.
In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her five brothers, Thomas & Walter Young, and Herman Jr., Ernest & A. Samuel LeDoyt. She is survived by three children, Gail (Daniel) Kulesza, Linnea Olsen and Ronald (Denise) Olsen. Grandchildren, Christopher Kulesza, Lyndsey (Al) Boulanger and Kristen (Alberto) Ortiz. Great grandchildren, Calla Kulesza, Mason & Kinsley Boulanger, Evan Merchant and Noah Ortiz.
Per Anne’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. Her family asks that you remember her fondly.
