Anja S. Mallinen

In Loving Memory

With sadness we announce Anja S. Mallinen of Voluntown, CT peacefully passed away at her home on March 24th 2025 at the age of 95. Born in Kemijärvi, Finland on August 6th 1929, she lived a long and meaningful life filled with love, kindness, and resilience.

Anja was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose unwavering strength and warmth touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Anja and her family immigrated from Finland in 1952 and she worked for the State of Connecticut at the State Hospitalin Preston, CT  as a health aide. She was an active member of Aura Seura, a Finnish heritage and agrcultural service hall in Voluntown, CT.

Anja is survived by her children, son Seppo Mallinen (Sharon) of Arizona, son Mark Mallinen (Pam) of Alaska, daughter V. Anneli Lisee (Alan) of Voluntown, CT, and daughter Emily Allard (Norman) of Volutown, CT. Grandchildren, Ryan Lisee (James Burgis II) of Preston, CT, Anneli Rose Allard- Moultan (Dan) of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Ivy Anja Allard of Ashville, North Carolina, Donna Lachapelle, Kathy Stickman of Voluntown, Lissa Duncan (Matt), Martti Mallinen, Jeffrey Mallinen, Krista Mallinen, all of California. 

She is predeceased by her husband Pentti Mallinen, her grandson Austin Lisee, and step-daughter Aila Lachapelle, grandson Wayne Lachapelle.

A private family service will be held on Friday April 4th. A celebration of life will be held the same day at the hall at Voluntown Fire Department, 205 Preston City Rd, Voluntown, CT from 1:30p - 4:00p for anyone who wished to attend.
