Alan J. Lalumiere, 70, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 20, 2025, in the Cardiac Care Unit at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 13, 1955, in Putnam, CT, Alan lived a life marked by devotion—to his country, his work, and most of all, his family. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1974 to 1976. Following his military service, he began a long and accomplished career at Electric Boat. Starting as a welder, Alan’s relentless work ethic and leadership led him to the position of Ships Manager, a role in which he took great pride.
After more than three decades at Electric Boat, Alan continued his professional journey with General Atomics in Lakehurst, New Jersey, where he played a key role in the construction of the test site for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG). His work on this project led him to Newport News, VA where he supported the installation aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) aircraft carrier. Alan retired from General Atomics in April 2017, leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity, safety, and excellence in leadership.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alan was a man of many passions. He found joy in his woodshop, crafting with care and pride, and loved the peace of fishing near a quiet stream or waterfall. His garden was a place of both effort and beauty, tended with the same devotion he gave his family. A talented cook, he enjoyed trying new recipes on his Traeger smoker and was especially known for his homemade pierogies, a dish he prepared with love and tradition. Whether gathered around the kitchen table or a cribbage board, Alan brought warmth and laughter to every moment. Above all, he was a proud papa who found his greatest joy in watching his grandchildren grow.
Alan lived by the motto, Never, Never Give Up—a quiet strength that shaped his life, inspired those around him, and will continue to guide the loved ones he leaves behind.
Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Rose (Dupointe) Lalumiere; his son, Marc A. Lalumiere; his daughter, Renee (Lalumiere) Malvesti and her husband, Michael T. Malvesti; and his four cherished grandchildren: Maya R. Lalumiere, Carter J. Lalumiere, Madison G. Malvesti, and Mary C. Malvesti. He also leaves behind his sister, Anna (Lalumiere) Nadeau and her husband, Gary Nadeau; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Lalumiere, wife of his late brother, Roland E. Lalumiere; along with many loving nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family, and dear friends who meant the world to him. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Jean M. Lalumiere and Roseanna G. Lalumiere.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, October 27, from 8:30-10:30 AM at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00AM at St. Mary's Church in Jewett City, with military burial at Pachaug Cemetery.
