MYSTIC-Lela Marie (Arnett) Poitras, 79, formerly of Jewett City, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Apple Rehab Mystic in Mystic, Connecticut. She was born December 28, 1939, in Jefferson County, Kentucky, to Harold Edward and Mary Frances (Collings) Arnett. Lela worked most of her life in the food service industry as a waitress, displaying a wonderful knack for connecting with people and making them feel welcome. She had an uncanny ability to reach every person she met in a deep and positive way. She never met a stranger. Lela truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; displaying her green thumb with plants and flowers, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She is survived by five children; Melody Godfrey of Altamonte Springs, Florida; Jeffrey Hoffman (Melody) of Bear Creek, North Carolina; Kristen Roberts of Westerly, Rhode Island; Tina Cayer of Brockton, Massachusetts; David Hoffman (Angelica) of Hernando, Mississippi; and her siblings Dwainn Arnett, Edwina Mullins, Harold Arnett, and John Arnett. Lela (Nana) also leaves behind 24 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Harold Arnett and Mary Blodgett; her sister, Patricia Campbell; and her infant son, Bradley. Family, friends, and others whose lives Lela touched are invited to Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Rd. in Jewett City, Connecticut on Saturday, January 04, 2020. A private family visitation will be at 9:00 AM. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM. Lela’s memorial service will be at 11:00 AM. Her final resting place will be next to her mother, in Highland Memory Garden in Apopka, Florida. Lela requested flowers be sent to Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home.

To all the friends and family of Lela, I would like to offer my deepest sympathies for the loss of a wonderful lady. I only remember meeting her a few times when I was a kid and maybe as a young teenager, but I remember she was always so nice. Her children are my first cousins, once removed. My parents, Earl and Dorothy Hoffman also send their condolences. They remember her fondly.
