Candice Marie Shoemaker, daughter of Troy J. and Beverly Shoemaker passed away on January 17, 2019. The 61 year old was born in San Diego on March 24, 1957. Beloved mother of Shannon Webster and her husband Dan of Griswold, and Jennifer Perrone and her fiancé Jimmy Don Murray of Snellville, Georgia.  She is survived by her sisters Deborah Darden and her husband Charles of Franklin, Virginia and Kimberly Gileau and her husband John of Voluntown.  Grandmother to Nolan and Ryan Webster. Aunt to Kyle and Madison Gileau of Voluntown.  She also leaves behind her Beagle Meagan whom she adored.
Candice was an accomplished tradesperson and held positions ranging from welding at Electric Boat, a school bus drive, and a Union painter for 25+ years. She was a culinary school graduate and had her own catering business.
Candice had an unmatched wit with a wry sense of humor, and often got her kicks from playing practical jokes on whoever fell victim. An avid animal lover and well known to stop traffic to help a turtle safely pass a roadway.  She was a purveyor of interesting goods and had a whimsically artistic way of displaying her trinkets that fill her home. Her spirit was relentless, tenacious, and unwavering.
She enjoyed camping, nature, collecting memorabilia and travelling. She loved spending time with her grandkids in the garden and dining “Al Fresco” on a summer evening.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold at 10am, on her birthday, March 24, 2019.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Candice’s family. Death is the hardest thing we have to deal with in life. I know my words can’t change anything and can do little to ease the pain you are feeling, so I pray that the God of comfort calm your hearts and help you heal. (2 Thessalonians 2:16,17) Lean on Him in the days to follow. One way that God comforts us today is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear.
