Preston - Frederick Charles Armstrong Jr., 90 years old, from Norwich, Connecticut died peacefully at Backus Hospital Monday October 29th 2018 with his family by his side.
He was the son of the late Frederick Armstrong Sr. and Anna Barron Armstrong, brother to Lois O'Connell and Rosalie Jordan., father to Roxanne Armstrong Romano, Kathy Armstrong Crouch and Freddy Armstrong, father-in-law to Jeffrey Crouch and John Romano, grandfather to Carl Armstrong, Andrew Crouch and Matthew and Christopher Romano.
Fred was educated through the Norwich School System.He graduated from Norwich Free Academy class of 1946. He received a college scholarship to Eastern Connecticut State College but entered the US Marines Corps instead. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. In 1951 he served as honor guard for General Clifton B Gates commander of the United States Marine Corps. He was discharged from the Marine Corp with the rank of Sergeant at Camp Lejeune North Carolina. After his enlistment he developed his career as a machinist, working at The Plastic Wire in Jewett City and Posi Seal in North Stonington but his true passion was for collecting and restoring antiques. He spent countless years attending auctions, he was truly one of the first "American Pickers".
He was never afraid to walk to the beat of his own drum. The most important thing to him was the love of his children. He possessed a genuine sense for kindness and unconditional love for his children. May his memory be for a blessing.
