Griswold – Jacqueline M. Grzelak, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday August 6, 2017 at Norwichtown Rehab and Care Center in Norwich.
Jackie was born May 9, 1933 in Ontario, Canada, to the late Joseph H. and Mary Edna Maude (Primeau) LaBonne.  On June 26, 1954 she was married to the love of her life, her Bubboy, Walter Grzelak.  Together, they built a beautiful life, always making time for family Sunday dinners, bus trips with good friends, and giving back to their community through service organizations and the church.  Jackie put her heart and soul into her life’s work of raising a strong and connected family.  She loved the Sundays and holidays that the family gathered around her table to eat her delicious cooking and she could often be heard recounting the fun she had on big family vacations.  More than anything, Jackie was so proud of her family and their accomplishments.  Though Walter predeceased Jackie in 2011, not a day has passed since that she did not spend missing him and his big, warm smile.  Her family is at peace knowing that Jackie and Bubboy are together once again.
Jackie is survived by her son, Mark Grzelak of Preston, two daughters, Mary Beth Mattern and her husband Ted of Preston, and Nancy Mattern of Jewett City, her sister, Grayce Levin, six grandchildren, Mary Jane E. Mattern and her fiancé, Tom Lawton, Eric Mattern and his wife, Elizabeth, Molly Mattern, Elizabeth Mattern, Caitlin Mattern, and Abigail Mattern, two great grandchildren, Madeline Mattern, and John Mattern, and several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 10:00-11:00AM at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT prior to the church services.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30AM at St. Mary’s Church in Jewett City, CT.  Interment will follow in Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold.  In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to Preston Public Schools, 375 Shetucket Turnpike, Preston, CT 06365.  For online condolences please go to www.gagnepiechowski.com.  The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff on the East and West wings of Norwichtown Rehab for the love, kindness, friendship, and care they showed Jackie in her time there.
