N. Stonington – Eugene “Paul” Modert, 60, of N. Stonington died April 7th at the L&M Hospital in New London.  He was born July 15, 1956, in Cambridge, MA, son of Phyllis (Thivierge) Modert and the late Eugene F. (Gene) Modert, and spent most of his boyhood in Oakdale, CT.
Paul enjoyed working as a laborer for Amtrak covering areas between Boston and New York.  He also enjoyed hiking, camping, rock climbing, art, music and technology.  His great love for Jehovah God was evident in how he loved his family and all of creation.  His fondest desire was to be able to have the strength to attend the Memorial of Jesus’ death with his Christian brothers and sisters again this year.
Paul is survived by his mother, Phyllis (Thivierge) Modert, special aunt, Brenda M. (Thivierge) Orell, aunts Eunice and Lois (Modert), four stepsiblings and numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Bradley E. Modert; father, Eugene F. Modert; stepfather, Joseph DiCecca; grandparents, Viola M. (Hughes) Thivierge and H. Edward Thivierge; Elizabeth (Moenke) Modert and Leo M. Modert; Uncles Sylvan and Ralph Modert, and many great aunts and uncles.
The family is grateful for the care Paul received at area hospitals, Harbor Village, and DaVita of Norwich.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday April 13, 2017 from Noon to 1:00PM at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, CT.   A funeral service will follow, at the funeral home, with a graveside service and burial within the Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich, CT.
